- keysin.MOV(~37 MB) - Example of near-inertial
submesoscale vortices.
In this clip, 4 days of observations from the OPRC-2 experiment in the
Florida Keys show near-inertial vorticies around the shelf break. Low
frequency flow (Gulf Stream) is represented by the color contours, and
near-inertial band currents are shown as vectors. The blue vector refers to
wind speed and direction from the Sandkey CMAN station.
- m2tid.mov(~6 MB) - M2 tidal currents.
- m2andraw.MOV(~21 MB) - Example of M2
tidal interaction with wind driven surface currents.
In this clip, from 3 days during COPE1, M2 tidal current amplitude is represented as color, M2
direction is shown by black arrow in upper left corner. The vectors are raw
surface current, and the blue arrow is wind observations from Chesapeake
Light Tower.
